Uniquely condemns a named individual, Abu Lahab, for his open and personal hostility toward the Prophet's message despite their close family ties.

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

تَبَّتْPerish
يَدَآ(the) hands
أَبِى(of) Abu
لَهَبٍۢLahab
وَتَبَّand perish he
1

May the hands of Abū Lahab be ruined, and ruined is he.

مَآNot
أَغْنَىٰ(will) avail
عَنْهُhim
مَالُهُۥhis wealth
وَمَاand what
كَسَبَhe earned
٢

His wealth will not avail him or that which he gained.

سَيَصْلَىٰHe will be burnt
نَارًۭا(in) a Fire
ذَاتَof
لَهَبٍۢBlazing Flames

He will [enter to] burn in a Fire of [blazing] flame

وَٱمْرَأَتُهُۥAnd his wife
حَمَّالَةَ(the) carrier
ٱلْحَطَبِ(of) firewood
٤

And his wife [as well] - the carrier of firewood.

فِىIn
جِيدِهَاher neck
حَبْلٌۭ(will be) a rope
مِّنof
مَّسَدٍۭpalm-fiber

Around her neck is a rope of [twisted] fiber.
