بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
1
قَدْIndeed
أَفْلَحَsuccessful
ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ(are) the believers
١

Certainly will the believers have succeeded:

2
ٱلَّذِينَThose who
هُمْ[they]
فِىduring
صَلَاتِهِمْtheir prayers
خَـٰشِعُونَ(are) humbly submissive
٢

They who are during their prayer humbly intent

3
وَٱلَّذِينَThose who
هُمْ[they]
عَنِfrom
ٱللَّغْوِthe vain talk
مُعْرِضُونَturn away
٣

And they who turn away from ill speech

4
وَٱلَّذِينَThose who
هُمْ[they]
لِلزَّكَوٲةِof purification works
فَـٰعِلُونَ(are) doers
٤

And they who are observant of zakāh

5
وَٱلَّذِينَAnd those who
هُمْ[they]
لِفُرُوجِهِمْof their modesty
حَـٰفِظُونَ(are) guardians
٥

And they who guard their private parts

6
إِلَّاExcept
عَلَىٰٓfrom
أَزْوَٲجِهِمْtheir spouses
أَوْor
مَاwhat
مَلَكَتْpossess
أَيْمَـٰنُهُمْtheir right hands
فَإِنَّهُمْthen indeed, they
غَيْرُ(are) not
مَلُومِينَblameworthy
٦

Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they will not be blamed -

7
فَمَنِThen whoever
ٱبْتَغَىٰseeks
وَرَآءَbeyond
ذَٲلِكَthat
فَأُوْلَـٰٓئِكَthen those
هُمُ[they]
ٱلْعَادُونَ(are) the transgressors
٧

But whoever seeks beyond that, then those are the transgressors -

8
وَٱلَّذِينَAnd those who
هُمْ[they]
لِأَمَـٰنَـٰتِهِمْof their trusts
وَعَهْدِهِمْand their promise(s)
رَٲعُونَ(are) observers
٨

And they who are to their trusts and their promises attentive

9
وَٱلَّذِينَAnd those who
هُمْ[they]
عَلَىٰover
صَلَوَٲتِهِمْtheir prayers
يُحَافِظُونَthey guard
٩

And they who carefully maintain their prayers -

10
أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَThose
هُمُ[they]
ٱلْوَٲرِثُونَ(are) the inheritors
١٠

Those are the inheritors

11
ٱلَّذِينَWho
يَرِثُونَwill inherit
ٱلْفِرْدَوْسَthe Paradise
هُمْThey
فِيهَاtherein
خَـٰلِدُونَ(will) abide forever
١١

Who will inherit al-Firdaus. They will abide therein eternally.

12
وَلَقَدْAnd indeed
خَلَقْنَاWe created
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَthe humankind
مِنfrom
سُلَـٰلَةٍۢan essence
مِّنof
طِينٍۢclay
12

And certainly did We create man from an extract of clay.

13
ثُمَّThen
جَعَلْنَـٰهُWe placed him
نُطْفَةًۭ(as) a semen-drop
فِىin
قَرَارٍۢa resting place
مَّكِينٍۢfirm
13

Then We placed him as a sperm-drop in a firm lodging [i.e., the womb].

14
ثُمَّThen
خَلَقْنَاWe created
ٱلنُّطْفَةَthe semen-drop
عَلَقَةًۭ(into) a clinging substance
فَخَلَقْنَاthen We created
ٱلْعَلَقَةَthe clinging substance
مُضْغَةًۭ(into) an embryonic lump
فَخَلَقْنَاthen We created
ٱلْمُضْغَةَthe embryonic lump
عِظَـٰمًۭا(into) bones
فَكَسَوْنَاthen We clothed
ٱلْعِظَـٰمَthe bones
لَحْمًۭا(with) flesh
ثُمَّthen
أَنشَأْنَـٰهُWe produce it
خَلْقًا(as) a creation
ءَاخَرَ ۚanother
فَتَبَارَكَSo blessed is
ٱللَّهُAllah
أَحْسَنُ(the) Best
ٱلْخَـٰلِقِينَ(of) the Creators
14

Then We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a lump [of flesh], and We made [from] the lump, bones, and We covered the bones with flesh; then We developed him into another creation. So blessed is Allāh, the best of creators.

15
ثُمَّThen
إِنَّكُمindeed, you
بَعْدَafter
ذَٰلِكَthat
لَمَيِّتُونَsurely (will) die
15

Then indeed, after that you are to die.

16
ثُمَّThen
إِنَّكُمْindeed, you
يَوْمَ(on the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ(of) the Resurrection
تُبْعَثُونَwill be resurrected
١٦

Then indeed you, on the Day of Resurrection, will be resurrected.

17
وَلَقَدْAnd indeed
خَلَقْنَاWe (have) created
فَوْقَكُمْabove you
سَبْعَseven
طَرَآئِقَpaths
وَمَاand not
كُنَّاWe are
عَنِof
ٱلْخَلْقِthe creation
غَـٰفِلِينَunaware
١٧

And We have created above you seven layered heavens, and never have We been of [Our] creation unaware.

18
وَأَنزَلْنَاAnd We send down
مِنَfrom
ٱلسَّمَآءِthe sky
مَآءًۢwater
بِقَدَرٍۢin (due) measure
فَأَسْكَنَّـٰهُthen We cause it to settle
فِىin
ٱلْأَرْضِ ۖthe earth
وَإِنَّاAnd indeed, We
عَلَىٰon
ذَهَابٍۭ بِهِۦtaking it away
لَقَـٰدِرُونَsurely (are) Able
18

And We have sent down rain from the sky in a measured amount and settled it in the earth. And indeed, We are Able to take it away.

19
فَأَنشَأْنَاThen We produced
لَكُمfor you
بِهِۦby it
جَنَّـٰتٍۢgardens
مِّن نَّخِيلٍۢof date-palms
وَأَعْنَـٰبٍۢand grapevines
لَّكُمْfor you
فِيهَاin it
فَوَٰكِهُ(are) fruits
كَثِيرَةٌۭabundant
وَمِنْهَاand from them
تَأْكُلُونَyou eat
19

And We brought forth for you thereby gardens of palm trees and grapevines in which for you are abundant fruits and from which you eat.

20
وَشَجَرَةًۭAnd a tree
تَخْرُجُ(that) springs forth
مِنfrom
طُورِ سَيْنَآءَMount Sinai
تَنۢبُتُ(which) produces
بِٱلدُّهْنِoil
وَصِبْغٍۢand a relish
لِّلْـَٔاكِلِينَfor those who eat
20

And [We brought forth] a tree issuing from Mount Sinai which produces oil and food [i.e., olives] for those who eat.

21
وَإِنَّAnd indeed
لَكُمْfor you
فِىin
ٱلْأَنْعَـٰمِthe cattle
لَعِبْرَةًۭ ۖsurely, (is) a lesson
نُّسْقِيكُمWe give you drink
مِّمَّاfrom what
فِى(is) in
بُطُونِهَاtheir bellies
وَلَكُمْand for you
فِيهَاin them
مَنَـٰفِعُ(are) benefits
كَثِيرَةٌۭmany
وَمِنْهَاand of them
تَأْكُلُونَyou eat
21

And indeed, for you in livestock is a lesson. We give you drink from that which is in their bellies, and for you in them are numerous benefits, and from them you eat.

22
وَعَلَيْهَاAnd on them
وَعَلَىand on
ٱلْفُلْكِ[the] ships
تُحْمَلُونَyou are carried
٢٢

And upon them and on ships you are carried.

23
وَلَقَدْAnd verily
أَرْسَلْنَاWe sent
نُوحًاNuh
إِلَىٰto
قَوْمِهِۦhis people
فَقَالَand he said
يَـٰقَوْمِO my people
ٱعْبُدُوا۟Worship
ٱللَّهَAllah
مَاnot
لَكُمfor you
مِّنْ(is) any
إِلَـٰهٍgod
غَيْرُهُۥٓ ۖother than Him
أَفَلَاThen will not
تَتَّقُونَyou fear
23

And We had certainly sent Noah to his people, and he said, "O my people, worship Allāh; you have no deity other than Him; then will you not fear Him?"

24
فَقَالَBut said
ٱلْمَلَؤُا۟the chiefs
ٱلَّذِينَ(of) those who
كَفَرُوا۟disbelieved
مِنamong
قَوْمِهِۦhis people
مَا هَـٰذَآThis is not
إِلَّاbut
بَشَرٌۭa man
مِّثْلُكُمْlike you
يُرِيدُhe wishes
أَنto
يَتَفَضَّلَassert (his) superiority
عَلَيْكُمْover you
وَلَوْand if
شَآءَ ٱللَّهُAllah had willed
لَأَنزَلَsurely He (would have) sent down
مَلَـٰٓئِكَةًۭAngels
مَّاNot
سَمِعْنَاwe heard
بِهَـٰذَاof this
فِىٓfrom
ءَابَآئِنَا ٱلْأَوَّلِينَour forefathers
24

But the eminent among those who disbelieved from his people said, "This is not but a man like yourselves who wishes to take precedence over you; and if Allāh had willed [to send a messenger], He would have sent down angels. We have not heard of this among our forefathers.

25
إِنْNot
هُوَhe
إِلَّا(is) but
رَجُلٌۢa man
بِهِۦin him
جِنَّةٌۭ(is) madness
فَتَرَبَّصُوا۟so wait
بِهِۦconcerning him
حَتَّىٰuntil
حِينٍۢa time
25

He is not but a man possessed with madness, so wait concerning him for a time."
