بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

حمٓHa Meem
١

Ḥā, Meem.

2
وَٱلْكِتَـٰبِBy the Book
ٱلْمُبِينِthe clear
٢

By the clear Book,

3
إِنَّآIndeed, We
أَنزَلْنَـٰهُrevealed it
فِىin
لَيْلَةٍۢa Night
مُّبَـٰرَكَةٍ ۚBlessed
إِنَّاIndeed, We
كُنَّا[We] are
مُنذِرِينَ(ever) warning
3

Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind].

4
فِيهَاTherein
يُفْرَقُis made distinct
كُلُّevery
أَمْرٍaffair
حَكِيمٍwise
٤

Therein [i.e., on that night] is made distinct every precise matter -

5
أَمْرًۭاA command
مِّنْfrom
عِندِنَآ ۚUs
إِنَّاIndeed, We
كُنَّا[We] are
مُرْسِلِينَ(ever) sending
5

[Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger]

6
رَحْمَةًۭAs Mercy
مِّنfrom
رَّبِّكَ ۚyour Lord
إِنَّهُۥIndeed, He
هُوَ[He]
ٱلسَّمِيعُ(is) the All-Hearer
ٱلْعَلِيمُthe All-Knower

As mercy from your Lord. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing,

7
رَبِّLord
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِand the earth
وَمَاand whatever
بَيْنَهُمَآ ۖ(is) between both of them
إِنif
كُنتُمyou are
مُّوقِنِينَcertain
7

Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain.

8
لَآ(There is) no
إِلَـٰهَgod
إِلَّاexcept
هُوَHim
يُحْىِۦHe gives life
وَيُمِيتُ‌ۖand causes death
رَبُّكُمْyour Lord
وَرَبُّand (the) Lord
ءَابَآئِكُمُ(of) your fathers
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَthe former
٨

There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers.

بَلْNay
هُمْthey
فِى(are) in
شَكٍّۢdoubt
يَلْعَبُونَplaying

But they are in doubt, amusing themselves.

10
فَٱرْتَقِبْThen watch
يَوْمَ(for the) Day
تَأْتِى(when) will bring
ٱلسَّمَآءُthe sky
بِدُخَانٍۢsmoke
مُّبِينٍۢvisible
10

Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke

11
يَغْشَىEnveloping
ٱلنَّاسَ‌ۖthe people
هَـٰذَاThis
عَذَابٌ(will be) a punishment
أَلِيمٌpainful
١١

Covering the people; this is a painful torment.

12
رَّبَّنَاOur Lord
ٱكْشِفْRemove
عَنَّاfrom us
ٱلْعَذَابَthe punishment
إِنَّاindeed, we
مُؤْمِنُونَ(are) believers
١٢

[They will say], "Our Lord, remove from us the torment; indeed, we are believers."

13
أَنَّىٰHow can
لَهُمُ(there be) for them
ٱلذِّكْرَىٰthe reminder
وَقَدْwhen verily
جَآءَهُمْhad come to them
رَسُولٌۭa Messenger
مُّبِينٌۭclear
13

How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger.

14
ثُمَّThen
تَوَلَّوْا۟they turned away
عَنْهُfrom him
وَقَالُوا۟and said
مُعَلَّمٌۭOne taught
مَّجْنُونٌa mad man
14

Then they turned away from him and said, "[He was] taught [and is] a madman."

15
إِنَّاIndeed, We
كَاشِفُواْ(will) remove
ٱلْعَذَابِthe punishment
قَلِيلاً‌ۚa little
إِنَّكُمْindeed, you
عَآئِدُونَ(will) return
١٥

Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief].

16
يَوْمَ(The) Day
نَبْطِشُWe will seize
ٱلْبَطْشَةَ(with) the seizure
ٱلْكُبْرَىٰٓthe greatest
إِنَّاindeed, We
مُنتَقِمُونَ(will) take retribution
١٦

The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution.

17
۞And certainly
وَلَقَدْWe tried
فَتَنَّاbefore them
قَبْلَهُمْ(the) people
قَوْمَ(of) Firaun
فِرْعَوْنَand came to them
وَجَآءَهُمْa Messenger
رَسُولٌ كَرِيمٌnoble
١٧

And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger [i.e., Moses],

18
أَنْThat
أَدُّوٓاْDeliver
إِلَىَّto me
عِبَادَ(the) servants
ٱللَّهِ‌ۖ(of) Allah
إِنِّىIndeed, I am
لَكُمْto you
رَسُولٌa Messenger
أَمِينٌtrustworthy
١٨

[Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allāh. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger,"

19
وَأَنAnd that
لَّا(do) not
تَعْلُوا۟exalt yourselves
عَلَىagainst
ٱللَّهِ ۖAllah
إِنِّىٓIndeed, I
ءَاتِيكُم[I] have come to you
بِسُلْطَـٰنٍۢwith an authority
مُّبِينٍۢclear
19

And [saying], "Be not haughty with Allāh. Indeed, I have come to you with clear evidence.

20
وَإِنِّىAnd indeed, I
عُذْتُ[I] seek refuge
بِرَبِّىwith my Lord
وَرَبِّكُمْand your Lord
أَنlest
تَرْجُمُونِyou stone me
20

And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me.

21
وَإِنAnd if
لَّمْnot
تُؤْمِنُوا۟you believe
لِىme
فَٱعْتَزِلُونِthen leave me alone
21

But if you do not believe me, then leave me alone."

22
فَدَعَاSo he called
رَبَّهُۥٓhis Lord
أَنَّThat
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِthese
قَوْمٌۭ(are) a people
مُّجْرِمُونَcriminals
22

And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people.

23
فَأَسْرِThen "Set out
بِعِبَادِىwith My slaves
لَيْلًا(by) night
إِنَّكُمIndeed, you
مُّتَّبَعُونَ(will be) followed
23

[Allāh said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued.

24
وَٱتْرُكِAnd leave
ٱلْبَحْرَthe sea
رَهْوًا ۖat rest
إِنَّهُمْIndeed, they
جُندٌۭ(are) an army
مُّغْرَقُونَ(to be) drowned
24

And leave the sea in stillness. Indeed, they are an army to be drowned."

25
كَمْHow many
تَرَكُوا۟(did) they leave
مِنof
جَنَّـٰتٍۢgardens
وَعُيُونٍۢand springs
25

How much they left behind of gardens and springs
