Ar-Rahman

The Most Merciful

الرحمن

Uniquely addresses both mankind and the jinn together, enumerating Allah's countless blessings and repeatedly asking which of His favors either creation could deny.

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُThe Most Gracious
١

The Most Merciful

2
عَلَّمَHe taught
ٱلْقُرْءَانَthe Quran
٢

Taught the Qur’ān,

3
خَلَقَHe created
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ[the] man
٣

Created man,

4
عَلَّمَهُHe taught him
ٱلْبَيَانَ[the] speech
٤

[And] taught him eloquence.

5
ٱلشَّمْسُThe sun
وَٱلْقَمَرُand the moon
بِحُسْبَانٍby (precise) calculation
٥

The sun and the moon [move] by precise calculation,

6
وَٱلنَّجْمُAnd the stars
وَٱلشَّجَرُand the trees
يَسْجُدَانِboth prostrate
٦

And the stars and trees prostrate.

7
وَٱلسَّمَآءَAnd the heaven
رَفَعَهَاHe raised it
وَوَضَعَand He has set up
ٱلْمِيزَانَthe balance
٧

And the heaven He raised and imposed the balance

8
أَلَّاThat not
تَطْغَوْاْyou may transgress
فِىin
ٱلْمِيزَانِthe balance
٨

That you not transgress within the balance.

9
وَأَقِيمُواْAnd establish
ٱلْوَزْنَthe weight
بِٱلْقِسْطِin justice
وَلَاand (do) not
تُخْسِرُواْmake deficient
ٱلْمِيزَانَthe balance
٩

And establish weight in justice and do not make deficient the balance.

10
وَٱلْأَرْضَAnd the earth
وَضَعَهَاHe laid it
لِلْأَنَامِfor the creatures
١٠

And the earth He laid [out] for the creatures.

11
فِيهَاTherein
فَـٰكِهَةٌۭ(is) fruit
وَٱلنَّخْلُand date-palms
ذَاتُhaving
ٱلْأَكْمَامِsheaths
11

Therein is fruit and palm trees having sheaths [of dates]

12
وَٱلْحَبُّAnd the grain
ذُوhaving
ٱلْعَصْفِhusk
وَٱلرَّيْحَانُand scented plants
١٢

And grain having husks and scented plants.

13
فَبِأَىِّSo which
ءَالَآءِ(of the) favors
رَبِّكُمَا(of) your Lord
تُكَذِّبَانِwill you both deny
١٣

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

14
خَلَقَHe created
ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَthe man
مِنfrom
صَلْصَـٰلٍۢclay
كَٱلْفَخَّارِlike the pottery
14

He created man from clay like [that of] pottery.

15
وَخَلَقَAnd He created
ٱلْجَآنَّthe jinn
مِنfrom
مَّارِجٍۢa smokeless flame
مِّنof
نَّارٍۢfire
15

And He created the jinn from a smokeless flame of fire.

16
فَبِأَىِّSo which
ءَالَآءِ(of the) favors
رَبِّكُمَا(of) your Lord
تُكَذِّبَانِwill you both deny
١٦

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

17
رَبُّLord
ٱلْمَشْرِقَيْنِ(of) the two Easts
وَرَبُّand Lord
ٱلْمَغْرِبَيْنِ(of) the two Wests
١٧

[He is] Lord of the two sunrises and Lord of the two sunsets.

18
فَبِأَىِّSo which
ءَالَآءِ(of the) favors
رَبِّكُمَا(of) your Lord
تُكَذِّبَانِwill you both deny
١٨

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

19
مَرَجَHe released
ٱلْبَحْرَيْنِthe two seas
يَلْتَقِيَانِmeeting
١٩

He released the two seas, meeting [one another];

20
بَيْنَهُمَاBetween both of them
بَرْزَخٌۭ(is) a barrier
لَّاnot
يَبْغِيَانِthey transgress
20

Between them is a barrier so neither of them transgresses.

21
فَبِأَىِّSo which
ءَالَآءِ(of the) favors
رَبِّكُمَا(of) your Lord
تُكَذِّبَانِwill you both deny
٢١

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

22
يَخْرُجُCome forth
مِنْهُمَاfrom both of them
ٱللُّؤْلُؤُthe pearl
وَٱلْمَرْجَانُand the coral
٢٢

From both of them emerge pearl and coral.

23
فَبِأَىِّSo which
ءَالَآءِ(of the) favors
رَبِّكُمَا(of) your Lord
تُكَذِّبَانِwill you both deny
٢٣

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

24
وَلَهُAnd for Him
ٱلْجَوَارِ(are) the ships
ٱلْمُنشَـَٔـاتُelevated
فِىin
ٱلْبَحْرِthe sea
كَٱلْأَعْلَـٰمِlike mountains
٢٤

And to Him belong the ships [with sails] elevated in the sea like mountains.

25
فَبِأَىِّSo which
ءَالَآءِ(of the) favors
رَبِّكُمَا(of) your Lord
تُكَذِّبَانِwill you both deny
٢٥

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?
