بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
1
ٱلْحَمْدُ(All) the praises and thanks
لِلَّهِ(be) to Allah
ٱلَّذِىthe One Who
خَلَقَcreated
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتِthe heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضَand the earth
وَجَعَلَand made
ٱلظُّلُمَـٰتِthe darkness[es]
وَٱلنُّورَ‌ۖand the light
ثُمَّThen
ٱلَّذِينَthose who
كَفَرُواْdisbelieved
بِرَبِّهِمْin their Lord
يَعْدِلُونَequate others with Him
١

[All] praise is [due] to Allāh, who created the heavens and the earth and made the darkness and the light. Then those who disbelieve equate [others] with their Lord.

2
هُوَHe
ٱلَّذِى(is) the One Who
خَلَقَكُمcreated you
مِّنfrom
طِينٍۢclay
ثُمَّthen
قَضَىٰٓHe decreed
أَجَلًۭا ۖa term
وَأَجَلٌۭand a term
مُّسَمًّىspecified
عِندَهُۥ ۖwith Him
ثُمَّyet
أَنتُمْyou
تَمْتَرُونَdoubt
2

It is He who created you from clay and then decreed a term and a specified time [known] to Him; then [still] you are in dispute.

3
وَهُوَAnd He
ٱللَّهُ(is) Allah
فِىin
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٲتِthe heavens
وَفِىand in
ٱلْأَرْضِ‌ۖthe earth
يَعْلَمُHe knows
سِرَّكُمْyour secret
وَجَهْرَكُمْand what you make public
وَيَعْلَمُand He knows
مَاwhat
تَكْسِبُونَyou earn
٣

And He is Allāh, [the only deity] in the heavens and the earth. He knows your secret and what you make public, and He knows that which you earn.

4
وَمَاAnd not
تَأْتِيهِمcomes to them
مِّنْ[of]
ءَايَةٍۢany sign
مِّنْfrom
ءَايَـٰتِ(the) Signs
رَبِّهِمْ(of) their Lord
إِلَّاbut
كَانُوا۟they are
عَنْهَاfrom it
مُعْرِضِينَturning away
4

And no sign comes to them from the signs of their Lord except that they turn away therefrom.

5
فَقَدْThen indeed
كَذَّبُواْthey denied
بِٱلْحَقِّthe truth
لَمَّاwhen
جَآءَهُمْ‌ۖit came to them
فَسَوْفَbut soon
يَأْتِيهِمْwill come to them
أَنۢبَـٰٓؤُاْnews
مَا(of) what
كَانُواْthey used to
بِهِۦ[at it]
يَسْتَهْزِءُونَmock
٥

For they had denied the truth when it came to them, but there is going to reach them the news of what they used to ridicule.

6
أَلَمْDid not
يَرَوْا۟they see
كَمْhow many
أَهْلَكْنَاWe destroyed
مِنfrom
قَبْلِهِمbefore them
مِّنof
قَرْنٍۢgenerations
مَّكَّنَّـٰهُمْWe had established them
فِىin
ٱلْأَرْضِthe earth
مَاwhat
لَمْnot
نُمَكِّنWe (have) established
لَّكُمْfor you
وَأَرْسَلْنَاAnd We sent
ٱلسَّمَآءَ(rain from) the sky
عَلَيْهِمupon them
مِّدْرَارًۭاshowering abundantly
وَجَعَلْنَاand We made
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرَthe rivers
تَجْرِىflow
مِنfrom
تَحْتِهِمْunderneath them
فَأَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمThen We destroyed them
بِذُنُوبِهِمْfor their sins
وَأَنشَأْنَاand We raised
مِنۢfrom
بَعْدِهِمْafter them
قَرْنًاgenerations
ءَاخَرِينَother
6

Have they not seen how many generations We destroyed before them which We had established upon the earth as We have not established you? And We sent [rain from] the sky upon them in showers and made rivers flow beneath them; then We destroyed them for their sins and brought forth after them a generation of others.

7
وَلَوْAnd (even) if
نَزَّلْنَاWe (had) sent down
عَلَيْكَto you
كِتَـٰبًۭاa written Scripture
فِىin
قِرْطَاسٍۢa parchment
فَلَمَسُوهُand they touched it
بِأَيْدِيهِمْwith their hands
لَقَالَsurely (would) have said
ٱلَّذِينَthose who
كَفَرُوٓا۟disbelieved
إِنْNot
هَـٰذَآ(is) this
إِلَّاbut
سِحْرٌۭmagic
مُّبِينٌۭclear
7

And even if We had sent down to you, [O Muḥammad], a written scripture on a page and they touched it with their hands, the disbelievers would say, "This is not but obvious magic."

8
وَقَالُوا۟And they said
لَوْلَآWhy has not been
أُنزِلَsent down
عَلَيْهِto him
مَلَكٌۭ ۖan Angel
وَلَوْAnd if
أَنزَلْنَاWe (had) sent down
مَلَكًۭاan Angel
لَّقُضِىَsurely (would) have been decided
ٱلْأَمْرُthe matter
ثُمَّthen
لَاno
يُنظَرُونَrespite would have been granted to them
8

And they say, "Why was there not sent down to him an angel?" But if We had sent down an angel, the matter would have been decided; then they would not be reprieved.

9
وَلَوْAnd if
جَعَلْنَـٰهُWe had made him
مَلَكًۭاan Angel
لَّجَعَلْنَـٰهُcertainly We (would) have made him
رَجُلًۭاa man
وَلَلَبَسْنَاand certainly We (would) have obscured
عَلَيْهِمto them
مَّاwhat
يَلْبِسُونَthey are obscuring
9

And if We had made him [i.e., the messenger] an angel, We would have made him [appear as] a man, and We would have covered them with that in which they cover themselves [i.e., confusion and doubt].

10
وَلَقَدِAnd indeed
ٱسْتُهْزِئَwere mocked
بِرُسُلٍۢMessengers
مِّنfrom
قَبْلِكَbefore you
فَحَاقَbut surrounded
بِٱلَّذِينَthose who
سَخِرُوا۟scoffed
مِنْهُمof them
مَّاwhat
كَانُوا۟they used to
بِهِۦ[at it]
يَسْتَهْزِءُونَmock
10

And already were messengers ridiculed before you, but those who mocked them were enveloped by that which they used to ridicule.

11
قُلْSay
سِيرُواْTravel
فِىin
ٱلْأَرْضِthe earth
ثُمَّand
ٱنظُرُواْsee
كَيْفَhow
كَانَwas
عَـٰقِبَةُ(the) end
ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ(of) the rejecters
١١

Say, "Travel through the land; then observe how was the end of the deniers."

12
قُلSay
لِّمَنTo whom (belongs)
مَّاwhat
فِى(is) in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِthe heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۖand the earth
قُلSay
لِّلَّهِ ۚTo Allah
كَتَبَHe has decreed
عَلَىٰupon
نَفْسِهِHimself
ٱلرَّحْمَةَ ۚthe Mercy
لَيَجْمَعَنَّكُمْSurely He will assemble you
إِلَىٰon
يَوْمِ(the) Day
ٱلْقِيَـٰمَةِ(of) the Resurrection
لَا(there is) no
رَيْبَdoubt
فِيهِ ۚabout it
ٱلَّذِينَThose who
خَسِرُوٓا۟have lost
أَنفُسَهُمْthemselves
فَهُمْthen they
لَا(do) not
يُؤْمِنُونَbelieve
12

Say, "To whom belongs whatever is in the heavens and earth?" Say, "To Allāh." He has decreed upon Himself mercy. He will surely assemble you for the Day of Resurrection, about which there is no doubt. Those who will lose themselves [that Day] do not believe.

13
۞ وَلَهُۥAnd for Him
مَا(is) whatever
سَكَنَdwells
فِىin
ٱلَّيْلِthe night
وَٱلنَّهَارِ ۚand the day
وَهُوَand He
ٱلسَّمِيعُ(is) All-Hearing
ٱلْعَلِيمُAll-Knowing
13

And to Him belongs that which reposes by night and by day, and He is the Hearing, the Knowing.

14
قُلْSay
أَغَيْرَIs it other than
ٱللَّهِAllah
أَتَّخِذُI (should) take
وَلِيًّۭا(as) a protector
فَاطِرِCreator
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِand the earth
وَهُوَwhile (it is) He
يُطْعِمُWho feeds
وَلَاand not
يُطْعَمُ ۗHe is fed
قُلْSay
إِنِّىٓIndeed I
أُمِرْتُ[I] am commanded
أَنْthat
أَكُونَI be
أَوَّلَ(the) first
مَنْwho
أَسْلَمَ ۖsubmits (to Allah)
وَلَاand not
تَكُونَنَّbe
مِنَof
ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَthe polytheists
14

Say, "Is it other than Allāh I should take as a protector, Creator of the heavens and earth, while it is He who feeds and is not fed?" Say, [O Muḥammad], "Indeed, I have been commanded to be the first [among you] who submit [to Allāh] and [was commanded], 'Do not ever be of the polytheists."

15
قُلْSay
إِنِّىٓIndeed, I
أَخَافُ[I] fear
إِنْif
عَصَيْتُI disobeyed
رَبِّىmy Lord
عَذَابَpunishment
يَوْمٍ(of) a Day
عَظِيمٍMighty
١٥

Say, "Indeed I fear, if I should disobey my Lord, the punishment of a tremendous Day."

16
مَّنWhoever
يُصْرَفْis averted
عَنْهُfrom it
يَوْمَئِذٍۢthat Day
فَقَدْthen surely
رَحِمَهُۥ ۚHe had Mercy on him
وَذَٰلِكَAnd that
ٱلْفَوْزُ(is) the success
ٱلْمُبِينُ(the) clear
16

He from whom it is averted that Day - [Allāh] has granted him mercy. And that is the clear attainment.

17
وَإِنAnd if
يَمْسَسْكَtouches you
ٱللَّهُAllah
بِضُرٍّۢwith affliction
فَلَاthen no
كَاشِفَremover
لَهُۥٓof it
إِلَّاexcept
هُوَ ۖHim
وَإِنAnd if
يَمْسَسْكَHe touches you
بِخَيْرٍۢwith good
فَهُوَthen He
عَلَىٰ(is) on
كُلِّevery
شَىْءٍۢthing
قَدِيرٌۭAll-Powerful
17

And if Allāh should touch you with adversity, there is no remover of it except Him. And if He touches you with good - then He is over all things competent.

18
وَهُوَAnd He
ٱلْقَاهِرُ(is) the Subjugator
فَوْقَover
عِبَادِهِۦ‌ۚHis slaves
وَهُوَAnd He
ٱلْحَكِيمُ(is) the All-Wise
ٱلْخَبِيرُthe All-Aware
١٨

And He is the subjugator over His servants. And He is the Wise, the Aware.

19
قُلْSay
أَىُّWhat
شَىْءٍthing
أَكْبَرُ(is) greatest
شَهَـٰدَةًۭ ۖ(as) a testimony
قُلِSay
ٱللَّهُ ۖAllah
شَهِيدٌۢ(is) Witness
بَيْنِىbetween me
وَبَيْنَكُمْ ۚand between you
وَأُوحِىَand has been revealed
إِلَىَّto me
هَـٰذَاthis
ٱلْقُرْءَانُ[the] Quran
لِأُنذِرَكُمthat I may warn you
بِهِۦwith it
وَمَنۢand whoever
بَلَغَ ۚit reaches
أَئِنَّكُمْDo you truly
لَتَشْهَدُونَtestify
أَنَّthat
مَعَwith
ٱللَّهِAllah
ءَالِهَةً(there are) gods
أُخْرَىٰ ۚother
قُلSay
لَّآNot
أَشْهَدُ ۚ(do) I testify
قُلْSay
إِنَّمَاOnly
هُوَHe
إِلَـٰهٌۭ(is) God
وَٰحِدٌۭOne
وَإِنَّنِىand indeed, I am
بَرِىٓءٌۭfree
مِّمَّاof what
تُشْرِكُونَyou associate (with Him)
19

Say, "What thing is greatest in testimony?" Say, "Allāh is witness between me and you. And this Qur’ān was revealed to me that I may warn you thereby and whomever it reaches. Do you [truly] testify that with Allāh there are other deities?" Say, "I will not testify [with you]." Say, "Indeed, He is but one God, and indeed, I am free of what you associate [with Him]."

20
ٱلَّذِينَThose (to) whom
ءَاتَيْنَـٰهُمُWe have given them
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَthe Book
يَعْرِفُونَهُۥthey recognize him
كَمَاas
يَعْرِفُونَthey recognize
أَبْنَآءَهُمُ‌ۘtheir sons
ٱلَّذِينَThose who
خَسِرُوٓاْlost
أَنفُسَهُمْthemselves
فَهُمْthen they
لَا(do) not
يُؤْمِنُونَbelieve
٢٠

Those to whom We have given the Scripture recognize it as they recognize their [own] sons. Those who will lose themselves [in the Hereafter] do not believe.

21
وَمَنْAnd who
أَظْلَمُ(is) more unjust
مِمَّنِthan (he) who
ٱفْتَرَىٰinvents
عَلَىagainst
ٱللَّهِAllah
كَذِبًاa lie
أَوْor
كَذَّبَrejects
بِـَٔـايَـٰتِهِۦٓ‌ۗHis Signs
إِنَّهُۥIndeed
لَاnot
يُفْلِحُwill be successful
ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَthe wrongdoers
٢١

And who is more unjust than one who invents about Allāh a lie or denies His verses? Indeed, the wrongdoers will not succeed.

22
وَيَوْمَAnd (the) Day
نَحْشُرُهُمْWe will gather them
جَمِيعًۭاall
ثُمَّthen
نَقُولُWe will say
لِلَّذِينَto those who
أَشْرَكُوٓا۟associated others with Allah
أَيْنَWhere (are)
شُرَكَآؤُكُمُyour partners
ٱلَّذِينَthose whom
كُنتُمْyou used to
تَزْعُمُونَclaim
22

And [mention, O Muḥammad], the Day We will gather them all together; then We will say to those who associated others with Allāh, "Where are your 'partners' that you used to claim [with Him]?"

23
ثُمَّThen
لَمْnot
تَكُنwill be
فِتْنَتُهُمْ(for) them a plea
إِلَّآexcept
أَنthat
قَالُوا۟they say
وَٱللَّهِBy Allah
رَبِّنَاour Lord
مَاnot
كُنَّاwe were
مُشْرِكِينَthose who associated others (with Allah)
23

Then there will be no [excuse upon] examination except they will say, "By Allāh, our Lord, we were not those who associated."

24
ٱنظُرْLook
كَيْفَhow
كَذَبُوا۟they lied
عَلَىٰٓagainst
أَنفُسِهِمْ ۚthemselves
وَضَلَّAnd lost
عَنْهُمfrom them
مَّاwhat
كَانُوا۟they used to
يَفْتَرُونَinvent
24

See how they will lie about themselves. And lost from them will be what they used to invent.

25
وَمِنْهُمAnd among them
مَّن(are those) who

25

And among them are those who listen to you, but We have placed over their hearts coverings, lest they understand it, and in their ears deafness. And if they should see every sign, they will not believe in it. Even when they come to you arguing with you, those who disbelieve say, "This is not but legends of the former peoples."
