بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

ٱلْحَآقَّةُThe Inevitable Reality

The Inevitable Reality -

مَاWhat
ٱلْحَآقَّةُ(is) the Inevitable Reality
٢

What is the Inevitable Reality?

3
وَمَآAnd what
أَدْرَٮٰكَwill make you know
مَاwhat
ٱلْحَآقَّةُ(is) the Inevitable Reality
٣

And what can make you know what is the Inevitable Reality?

4
كَذَّبَتْDenied
ثَمُودُThamud
وَعَادٌۢand Aad
بِٱلْقَارِعَةِthe Striking Calamity
4

Thamūd and ʿAad denied the Striking Calamity [i.e., the Resurrection].

فَأَمَّاSo as for
ثَمُودُThamud
فَأُهْلِكُواْthey were destroyed
بِٱلطَّاغِيَةِby the overpowering (blast)
٥

So as for Thamūd, they were destroyed by the overpowering [blast].

وَأَمَّاAnd as for
عَادٌۭAad
فَأُهْلِكُوا۟they were destroyed
بِرِيحٍۢby a wind
صَرْصَرٍscreaming
عَاتِيَةٍۢviolent

And as for ʿAad, they were destroyed by a screaming, violent wind

7
سَخَّرَهَاWhich He imposed
عَلَيْهِمْupon them
سَبْعَ(for) seven
لَيَالٍۢnights
وَثَمَـٰنِيَةَand eight
أَيَّامٍdays
حُسُومًۭا(in) succession
فَتَرَىso you would see
ٱلْقَوْمَthe people
فِيهَاtherein
صَرْعَىٰfallen
كَأَنَّهُمْas if they were
أَعْجَازُtrunks
نَخْلٍ(of) date-palms
خَاوِيَةٍۢhollow
7

Which He [i.e., Allāh] imposed upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so you would see the people therein fallen as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees.

فَهَلْThen do
تَرَىٰyou see
لَهُمof them
مِّنۢany
بَاقِيَةٍۢremains
8

Then do you see of them any remains?

9
وَجَآءَAnd came
فِرْعَوْنُFiraun
وَمَنand (those)
قَبْلَهُۥbefore him
وَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَـٰتُand the overturned cities
بِٱلْخَاطِئَةِwith sin
9

And there came Pharaoh and those before him and the overturned cities with sin.

10
فَعَصَوْا۟And they disobeyed
رَسُولَ(the) Messenger
رَبِّهِمْ(of) their Lord
فَأَخَذَهُمْso He seized them
أَخْذَةًۭ(with) a seizure
رَّابِيَةًexceeding
10

And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with a seizure exceeding [in severity].

11
إِنَّاIndeed, We
لَمَّاwhen
طَغَاoverflowed
ٱلْمَآءُthe water
حَمَلْنَـٰكُمْWe carried you
فِىin
ٱلْجَارِيَةِthe sailing (ship)
١١

Indeed, when the water overflowed, We carried you [i.e., your ancestors] in the sailing ship

لِنَجْعَلَهَاThat We might make it
لَكُمْfor you
تَذْكِرَةًۭa reminder
وَتَعِيَهَآand would be conscious of it
أُذُنٌۭan ear
وَٰعِيَةٌۭconscious
12

That We might make it for you a reminder and [that] a conscious ear would be conscious of it.

13
فَإِذَاThen when
نُفِخَis blown
فِىin
ٱلصُّورِthe trumpet
نَفْخَةٌۭa blast
وَٰحِدَةٌۭsingle
13

Then when the Horn is blown with one blast

14
وَحُمِلَتِAnd are lifted
ٱلْأَرْضُthe earth
وَٱلْجِبَالُand the mountains
فَدُكَّتَاand crushed
دَكَّةًۭ(with) a crushing
وَٰحِدَةًۭsingle
14

And the earth and the mountains are lifted and leveled with one blow [i.e., stroke] -

15
فَيَوْمَئِذٍۢThen (on) that Day
وَقَعَتِwill occur
ٱلْوَاقِعَةُthe Occurrence
15

Then on that Day, the Occurrence [i.e., Resurrection] will occur,

16
وَٱنشَقَّتِAnd will split
ٱلسَّمَآءُthe heaven
فَهِىَso it
يَوْمَئِذٍۢ(is on) that Day
وَاهِيَةٌۭfrail
16

And the heaven will split [open], for that Day it is infirm.

17
وَٱلْمَلَكُAnd the Angels
عَلَىٰٓ(will be) on
أَرْجَآئِهَا ۚits edges
وَيَحْمِلُand will bear
عَرْشَ(the) Throne
رَبِّكَ(of) your Lord
فَوْقَهُمْabove them
يَوْمَئِذٍۢthat Day
ثَمَـٰنِيَةٌۭeight
17

And the angels are at its edges. And there will bear the Throne of your Lord above them, that Day, eight [of them].

18
يَوْمَئِذٍۢThat Day
تُعْرَضُونَyou will be exhibited
لَاnot
تَخْفَىٰwill be hidden
مِنكُمْamong you
خَافِيَةٌۭany secret
18

That Day, you will be exhibited [for judgement]; not hidden among you is anything concealed.

19
فَأَمَّاThen as for
مَنْ(him) who
أُوتِىَis given
كِتَـٰبَهُۥhis record
بِيَمِينِهِۦin his right hand
فَيَقُولُwill say
هَآؤُمُHere
ٱقْرَءُواْread
كِتَـٰبِيَهْmy record
١٩

So as for he who is given his record in his right hand, he will say, "Here, read my record!

20
إِنِّىIndeed, I
ظَنَنتُwas certain
أَنِّىthat I
مُلَـٰقٍ(will) meet
حِسَابِيَهْmy account
٢٠

Indeed, I was certain that I would be meeting my account."

21
فَهُوَSo he
فِى(will be) in
عِيشَةٍۢa life
رَّاضِيَةٍۢpleasant
21

So he will be in a pleasant life -

22
فِىIn
جَنَّةٍa Garden
عَالِيَةٍelevated
٢٢

In an elevated garden,

23
قُطُوفُهَاIts clusters of fruits
دَانِيَةٌhanging near
٢٣

Its [fruit] to be picked hanging near.

24
كُلُوا۟Eat
وَٱشْرَبُوا۟and drink
هَنِيٓـًٔۢا(in) satisfaction
بِمَآfor what
أَسْلَفْتُمْyou sent before you
فِىin
ٱلْأَيَّامِthe days
ٱلْخَالِيَةِpast
24

[They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you put forth in the days past."

25
وَأَمَّاBut as for
مَنْ(him) who
أُوتِىَis given
كِتَـٰبَهُۥhis record
بِشِمَالِهِۦin his left hand
فَيَقُولُwill say
يَـٰلَيْتَنِىO! I wish
لَمْnot
أُوتَI had been given
كِتَـٰبِيَهْmy record
٢٥

But as for he who is given his record in his left hand, he will say, "Oh, I wish I had not been given my record
