Those Who Drag Forth

النازعات

Swears by the angels who carry out Allah's commands to affirm that the Resurrection and the life to come will certainly take place.

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
1
وَٱلنَّـٰزِعَـٰتِBy those who extract
غَرْقًاviolently
١

By those [angels] who extract with violence

2
وَٱلنَّـٰشِطَـٰتِAnd those who draw out
نَشْطًاgently
٢

And [by] those who remove with ease

3
وَٱلسَّـٰبِحَـٰتِAnd those who glide
سَبْحًاswimming
٣

And [by] those who glide [as if] swimming

4
فَٱلسَّـٰبِقَـٰتِAnd those who race each other
سَبْقًا(in) a race
٤

And those who race each other in a race

5
فَٱلْمُدَبِّرَٲتِAnd those who arrange
أَمْرًا(the) matter
٥

And those who arrange [each] matter,

6
يَوْمَ(The) Day
تَرْجُفُwill quake
ٱلرَّاجِفَةُthe quaking one
٦

On the Day the blast [of the Horn] will convulse [creation],

7
تَتْبَعُهَاFollows it
ٱلرَّادِفَةُthe subsequent
٧

There will follow it the subsequent [one].

8
قُلُوبٌۭHearts
يَوْمَئِذٍۢthat Day
وَاجِفَةٌwill palpitate
8

Hearts, that Day, will tremble,

9
أَبْصَـٰرُهَاTheir eyes
خَـٰشِعَةٌhumbled
٩

Their eyes humbled.

10
يَقُولُونَThey say
أَءِنَّاWill we
لَمَرْدُودُونَindeed be returned
فِىto
ٱلْحَافِرَةِthe former state
١٠

They are [presently] saying, "Will we indeed be returned to [our] former state [of life]?

11
أَءِذَاWhat! When
كُنَّاwe are
عِظَـٰمًۭاbones
نَّخِرَةًۭdecayed
11

Even if we should be decayed bones?"

12
قَالُوا۟They say
تِلْكَThis
إِذًۭاthen
كَرَّةٌ(would be) a return
خَاسِرَةٌۭlosing
12

They say, "That, then, would be a losing return."

13
فَإِنَّمَاThen only
هِىَit
زَجْرَةٌۭ(will be) a shout
وَٰحِدَةٌۭsingle
13

Indeed, it will be but one shout,

14
فَإِذَاAnd behold
هُمThey
بِٱلسَّاهِرَةِ(will be) awakened
14

And suddenly they will be [alert] upon the earth's surface.

15
هَلْHas
أَتَـٰكَ(there) come to you
حَدِيثُ(the) story
مُوسَىٰٓ(of) Musa
١٥

Has there reached you the story of Moses? -

16
إِذْWhen
نَادَٮٰهُcalled him
رَبُّهُۥhis Lord
بِٱلْوَادِin the valley
ٱلْمُقَدَّسِthe sacred
طُوًى(of) Tuwa
١٦

When his Lord called to him in the sacred valley of Ṭuwā,

17
ٱذْهَبْGo
إِلَىٰto
فِرْعَوْنَFiraun
إِنَّهُۥIndeed, he
طَغَىٰ(has) transgressed
١٧

"Go to Pharaoh. Indeed, he has transgressed.

18
فَقُلْAnd say
هَلWould
لَّكَ[for] you
إِلَىٰٓ[to]
أَن[that]
تَزَكَّىٰpurify yourself
18

And say to him, 'Would you [be willing to] purify yourself

19
وَأَهْدِيَكَAnd I will guide you
إِلَىٰto
رَبِّكَyour Lord
فَتَخْشَىٰso you would fear
١٩

And let me guide you to your Lord so you would fear [Him]?'"

20
فَأَرَٮٰهُThen he showed him
ٱلْأَيَةَthe sign
ٱلْكُبْرَىٰthe great
٢٠

And he showed him the greatest sign,

21
فَكَذَّبَBut he denied
وَعَصَىٰand disobeyed
٢١

But he [i.e., Pharaoh] denied and disobeyed.

22
ثُمَّThen
أَدْبَرَhe turned his back
يَسْعَىٰstriving
٢٢

Then he turned his back, striving [i.e., plotting].

23
فَحَشَرَAnd he gathered
فَنَادَىٰand called out
٢٣

And he gathered [his people] and called out.

24
فَقَالَThen he said
أَنَا۟I am
رَبُّكُمُyour Lord
ٱلْأَعْلَىٰthe Most High
٢٤

And said, "I am your most exalted lord."

25
فَأَخَذَهُSo seized him
ٱللَّهُAllah
نَكَالَ(with) an exemplary punishment
ٱلْأَخِرَةِ(for) the last
وَٱلْأُولَىٰٓand the first
٢٥

So Allāh seized him in exemplary punishment for the last and the first [transgression]..
