بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
1
يَسْـَٔلُونَكَThey ask you
عَنِabout
ٱلْأَنفَالِ ۖthe spoils of war
قُلِSay
ٱلْأَنفَالُThe spoils of war
لِلَّهِ(are) for Allah
وَٱلرَّسُولِ ۖand the Messenger
فَٱتَّقُوا۟So fear
ٱللَّهَAllah
وَأَصْلِحُوا۟and set right
ذَاتَthat
بَيْنِكُمْ ۖ(which is) between you
وَأَطِيعُوا۟and obey
ٱللَّهَAllah
وَرَسُولَهُۥٓand His Messenger
إِنif
كُنتُمyou are
مُّؤْمِنِينَbelievers
1

They ask you, [O Muḥammad], about the bounties [of war]. Say, "The [decision concerning] bounties is for Allāh and the Messenger." So fear Allāh and amend that which is between you and obey Allāh and His Messenger, if you should be believers.

2
إِنَّمَاOnly
ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَthe believers
ٱلَّذِينَ(are) those who
إِذَاwhen
ذُكِرَis mentioned
ٱللَّهُAllah
وَجِلَتْfeel fear
قُلُوبُهُمْtheir hearts
وَإِذَاand when
تُلِيَتْare recited
عَلَيْهِمْto them
ءَايَـٰتُهُۥHis Verses
زَادَتْهُمْthey increase them
إِيمَـٰنًۭا(in) faith
وَعَلَىٰand upon
رَبِّهِمْtheir Lord
يَتَوَكَّلُونَthey put their trust
2

The believers are only those who, when Allāh is mentioned, their hearts become fearful, and when His verses are recited to them, it increases them in faith; and upon their Lord they rely -

3
ٱلَّذِينَThose who
يُقِيمُونَestablish
ٱلصَّلَوٲةَthe prayer
وَمِمَّاand out of what
رَزَقْنَـٰهُمْWe have provided them
يُنفِقُونَthey spend
٣

The ones who establish prayer, and from what We have provided them, they spend.

4
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَThose
هُمُthey are
ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَthe believers
حَقًّۭا ۚ(in) truth
لَّهُمْFor them
دَرَجَـٰتٌ(are) ranks
عِندَwith
رَبِّهِمْtheir Lord
وَمَغْفِرَةٌۭand forgiveness
وَرِزْقٌۭand a provision
كَرِيمٌۭnoble
4

Those are the believers, truly. For them are degrees [of high position] with their Lord and forgiveness and noble provision.

5
كَمَآAs
أَخْرَجَكَbrought you out
رَبُّكَyour Lord
مِنۢfrom
بَيْتِكَyour home
بِٱلْحَقِّin truth
وَإِنَّwhile indeed
فَرِيقًۭاa party
مِّنَamong
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believers
لَكَـٰرِهُونَcertainly disliked
5

[It is] just as when your Lord brought you out of your home [for the battle of Badr] in truth, while indeed, a party among the believers were unwilling,

6
يُجَـٰدِلُونَكَThey dispute with you
فِىconcerning
ٱلْحَقِّthe truth
بَعْدَ مَاafter what
تَبَيَّنَwas made clear
كَأَنَّمَاas if
يُسَاقُونَthey were driven
إِلَىto
ٱلْمَوْتِ[the] death
وَهُمْwhile they
يَنظُرُونَ(were) looking
6

Arguing with you concerning the truth after it had become clear, as if they were being driven toward death while they were looking on.

7
وَإِذْAnd when
يَعِدُكُمُpromised you
ٱللَّهُAllah
إِحْدَىone
ٱلطَّآئِفَتَيْنِ(of) the two groups
أَنَّهَاthat it (would be)
لَكُمْfor you
وَتَوَدُّونَand you wished
أَنَّthat
غَيْرَ(one) other than
ذَاتِthat
ٱلشَّوْكَةِ(of) the armed

لَكُمْfor you
وَيُرِيدُBut intended
ٱللَّهُAllah
أَنto
يُحِقَّjustify
ٱلْحَقَّthe truth
بِكَلِمَـٰتِهِۦby His words
وَيَقْطَعَand cut off
دَابِرَ(the) roots
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ(of) the disbelievers
7

[Remember, O believers], when Allāh promised you one of the two groups - that it would be yours - and you wished that the unarmed one would be yours. But Allāh intended to establish the truth by His words and to eliminate the disbelievers

8
لِيُحِقَّThat He might justify
ٱلْحَقَّthe truth
وَيُبْطِلَand prove false
ٱلْبَـٰطِلَthe falsehood
وَلَوْeven if
كَرِهَdisliked (it)
ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَthe criminals
٨

That He should establish the truth and abolish falsehood, even if the criminals disliked it.

9
إِذْWhen
تَسْتَغِيثُونَyou were seeking help
رَبَّكُمْ(of) your Lord
فَٱسْتَجَابَand He answered
لَكُمْ[to] you
أَنِّىIndeed, I am
مُمِدُّكُمgoing to reinforce you
بِأَلْفٍۢwith a thousand
مِّنَof
ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِthe Angels
مُرْدِفِينَone after another
9

[Remember] when you were asking help of your Lord, and He answered you, "Indeed, I will reinforce you with a thousand from the angels, following one another."

10
وَمَاAnd not
جَعَلَهُ(it was) made
ٱللَّهُ(by) Allah
إِلَّاbut
بُشْرَىٰgood tidings
وَلِتَطْمَئِنَّand so that might be at rest
بِهِۦwith it
قُلُوبُكُمْ‌ۚyour hearts
وَمَاAnd (there is) no
ٱلنَّصْرُ[the] victory
إِلَّاexcept
مِنْfrom
عِندِ[of]
ٱللَّهِ‌ۚAllah
إِنَّIndeed
ٱللَّهَAllah
عَزِيزٌ(is) All-Mighty
حَكِيمٌAll-Wise
١٠

And Allāh made it not but good tidings and so that your hearts would be assured thereby. And victory is not but from Allāh. Indeed, Allāh is Exalted in Might and Wise.

11
إِذْWhen
يُغَشِّيكُمُHe covered you
ٱلنُّعَاسَwith [the] slumber
أَمَنَةًۭa security
مِّنْهُfrom Him
وَيُنَزِّلُand sent down
عَلَيْكُمupon you
مِّنَfrom
ٱلسَّمَآءِthe sky
مَآءًۭwater
لِّيُطَهِّرَكُمso that He may purify you
بِهِۦwith it
وَيُذْهِبَand take away
عَنكُمْfrom you
رِجْزَevil (suggestions)
ٱلشَّيْطَـٰنِ(of) the Shaitaan
وَلِيَرْبِطَAnd to strengthen
عَلَىٰ[on]
قُلُوبِكُمْyour hearts
وَيُثَبِّتَand make firm
بِهِwith it
ٱلْأَقْدَامَyour feet
11

[Remember] when He overwhelmed you with drowsiness [giving] security from Him and sent down upon you from the sky, rain by which to purify you and remove from you the evil [suggestions] of Satan and to make steadfast your hearts and plant firmly thereby your feet.

12
إِذْWhen
يُوحِىinspired
رَبُّكَyour Lord
إِلَىto
ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِthe Angels
أَنِّىI am
مَعَكُمْwith you
فَثَبِّتُواْso strengthen
ٱلَّذِينَthose who
ءَامَنُواْ‌ۚbelieved
سَأُلْقِىI will cast
فِىin
قُلُوبِ(the) hearts
ٱلَّذِينَ(of) those who
كَفَرُواْdisbelieved
ٱلرُّعْبَthe terror
فَٱضْرِبُواْso strike
فَوْقَabove
ٱلْأَعْنَاقِthe necks
وَٱضْرِبُواْand strike
مِنْهُمْfrom them
كُلَّevery
بَنَانٍfingertip[s]
١٢

[Remember] when your Lord inspired to the angels, "I am with you, so strengthen those who have believed. I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieved, so strike [them] upon the necks and strike from them every fingertip."

13
ذَٰلِكَThat
بِأَنَّهُمْ(is) because they
شَآقُّوا۟opposed
ٱللَّهَAllah
وَرَسُولَهُۥ ۚand His Messenger
وَمَنAnd whoever
يُشَاقِقِopposes
ٱللَّهَAllah
وَرَسُولَهُۥand His Messenger
فَإِنَّthen indeed
ٱللَّهَAllah
شَدِيدُ(is) severe
ٱلْعِقَابِin [the] penalty
13

That is because they opposed Allāh and His Messenger. And whoever opposes Allāh and His Messenger - indeed, Allāh is severe in penalty.

14
ذَٲلِكُمْThat
فَذُوقُوهُSo taste it
وَأَنَّAnd that
لِلْكَـٰفِرِينَfor the disbelievers
عَذَابَ(is the) punishment
ٱلنَّارِ(of) the Fire
١٤

"That [is yours], so taste it." And indeed for the disbelievers is the punishment of the Fire.

15
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاO you
ٱلَّذِينَwho
ءَامَنُوٓا۟believe
إِذَاWhen
لَقِيتُمُyou meet
ٱلَّذِينَthose who
كَفَرُوا۟disbelieve
زَحْفًۭاadvancing
فَلَاthen (do) not
تُوَلُّوهُمُturn to them
ٱلْأَدْبَارَthe backs
15

O you who have believed, when you meet those who disbelieve advancing [in battle], do not turn to them your backs [in flight].

16
وَمَنAnd whoever
يُوَلِّهِمْturns to them
يَوْمَئِذٍۢthat day
دُبُرَهُۥٓhis back
إِلَّاexcept
مُتَحَرِّفًۭا(as) a strategy
لِّقِتَالٍof war
أَوْor
مُتَحَيِّزًا(to) join
إِلَىٰto
فِئَةٍۢa group
فَقَدْcertainly
بَآءَ(he has) incurred
بِغَضَبٍۢwrath
مِّنَof
ٱللَّهِAllah
وَمَأْوَىٰهُand his abode
جَهَنَّمُ ۖ(is) Hell
وَبِئْسَa wretched
ٱلْمَصِيرُdestination
16

And whoever turns his back to them on such a day, unless swerving [as a strategy] for war or joining [another] company, has certainly returned with anger [upon him] from Allāh, and his refuge is Hell - and wretched is the destination.

17
فَلَمْAnd not
تَقْتُلُوهُمْyou kill them
وَلَـٰكِنَّbut
ٱللَّهَAllah
قَتَلَهُمْ‌ۚkilled them
وَمَاAnd not
رَمَيْتَyou threw
إِذْwhen
رَمَيْتَyou threw
وَلَـٰكِنَّbut
ٱللَّهَAllah
رَمَىٰ‌ۚthrew
وَلِيُبْلِىَand that He may test
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believers
مِنْهُfrom Him
بَلَآءً(with) a trial
حَسَنًا‌ۚgood
إِنَّIndeed
ٱللَّهَAllah
سَمِيعٌ(is) All-Hearing
عَلِيمٌAll-Knowing
١٧

And you did not kill them, but it was Allāh who killed them. And you threw not, [O Muḥammad], when you threw, but it was Allāh who threw that He might test the believers with a good test. Indeed, Allāh is Hearing and Knowing.

18
ذَٲلِكُمْThat (is the case)
وَأَنَّand that
ٱللَّهَAllah (is)
مُوهِنُone who makes weak
كَيْدِ(the) plan
ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ(of) the disbelievers
١٨

That [is so], and [also] that Allāh will weaken the plot of the disbelievers.

19
إِنIf
تَسْتَفْتِحُوا۟you ask for victory
فَقَدْthen certainly
جَآءَكُمُhas come to you
ٱلْفَتْحُ ۖthe victory
وَإِنAnd if
تَنتَهُوا۟you desist
فَهُوَthen it (is)
خَيْرٌۭgood
لَّكُمْ ۖfor you
وَإِنbut if
تَعُودُوا۟you return
نَعُدْWe will return (too)
وَلَنAnd never
تُغْنِىَwill avail
عَنكُمْyou
فِئَتُكُمْyour forces
شَيْـًۭٔاanything
وَلَوْeven if
كَثُرَتْ(they are) numerous
وَأَنَّAnd that
ٱللَّهَAllah
مَعَ(is) with
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَthe believers
19

If you [disbelievers] seek the decision [i.e., victory] - the decision [i.e., defeat] has come to you. And if you desist [from hostilities], it is best for you; but if you return [to war], We will return, and never will you be availed by your [large] company at all, even if it should increase; and [that is] because Allāh is with the believers.

20
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاO you
ٱلَّذِينَwho
ءَامَنُوٓاْbelieve
أَطِيعُواْObey
ٱللَّهَAllah
وَرَسُولَهُۥand His Messenger
وَلَاAnd (do) not
تَوَلَّوْاْturn away
عَنْهُfrom him
وَأَنتُمْwhile you
تَسْمَعُونَhear
٢٠

O you who have believed, obey Allāh and His Messenger and do not turn from him while you hear [his order].

21
وَلَاAnd (do) not
تَكُونُواْbe
كَٱلَّذِينَlike those who
قَالُواْsay
سَمِعْنَاWe heard
وَهُمْwhile they
لَا(do) not
يَسْمَعُونَhear
٢١

And do not be like those who say, "We have heard," while they do not hear.

22
۞ إِنَّIndeed
شَرَّworst
ٱلدَّوَآبِّ(of) the living creatures
عِندَnear
ٱللَّهِAllah
ٱلصُّمُّ(are) the deaf
ٱلْبُكْمُthe dumb
ٱلَّذِينَthose who
لَا(do) not
يَعْقِلُونَuse (their) intellect
22

Indeed, the worst of living creatures in the sight of Allāh are the deaf and dumb who do not use reason [i.e., the disbelievers].

23
وَلَوْAnd if
عَلِمَ(had) known
ٱللَّهُAllah
فِيهِمْin them
خَيْرًۭاany good
لَّأَسْمَعَهُمْ ۖsurely, He (would) have made them hear
وَلَوْAnd if
أَسْمَعَهُمْHe had made them hear
لَتَوَلَّوا۟surely they would have turned away
وَّهُمwhile they
مُّعْرِضُونَ(were) averse
23

Had Allāh known any good in them, He would have made them hear. And if He had made them hear, they would [still] have turned away, while they were refusing.

24
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاO you
ٱلَّذِينَwho
ءَامَنُواْbelieve
ٱسْتَجِيبُواْRespond
لِلَّهِto Allah
وَلِلرَّسُولِand His Messenger
إِذَاwhen
دَعَاكُمْhe calls you
لِمَاto what
يُحْيِيكُمْ‌ۖgives you life
وَٱعْلَمُوٓاْAnd know
أَنَّthat
ٱللَّهَAllah
يَحُولُcomes
بَيْنَ(in) between
ٱلْمَرْءِa man
وَقَلْبِهِۦand his heart
وَأَنَّهُۥٓand that
إِلَيْهِto Him
تُحْشَرُونَyou will be gathered
٢٤

O you who have believed, respond to Allāh and to the Messenger when he calls you to that which gives you life. And know that Allāh intervenes between a man and his heart and that to Him you will be gathered.

25
وَٱتَّقُوا۟And fear
فِتْنَةًۭa trial
لَّاnot
تُصِيبَنَّwhich will afflict
ٱلَّذِينَthose who
ظَلَمُوا۟do wrong
مِنكُمْamong you
خَآصَّةًۭ ۖexclusively
وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟And know
أَنَّthat
ٱللَّهَAllah
شَدِيدُ(is) severe
ٱلْعِقَابِ(in) the penalty
25

And fear a trial which will not strike those who have wronged among you exclusively, and know that Allāh is severe in penalty.
