The Sun
الشمسDistinguishes the path of moral purification from the path of corruption, warning through the story of Thamud of the ruin that follows insisting on the latter.

وَٱلشَّمْسِBy the sun
وَضُحَـٰهَاand its brightness
١
By the sun and its brightness
2
وَٱلْقَمَرِAnd the moon
إِذَاwhen
تَلَـٰهَاit follows it
٢
And [by] the moon when it follows it
3
وَٱلنَّهَارِAnd the day
إِذَاwhen
جَلَّـٰهَاit displays it
٣
And [by] the day when it displays it
4
وَٱلَّيْلِAnd the night
إِذَاwhen
يَغْشَـٰهَاit covers it
٤
And [by] the night when it covers [i.e., conceals] it
5
وَٱلسَّمَآءِAnd the heaven
وَمَاand (He) Who
بَنَـٰهَاconstructed it
٥
And [by] the sky and He who constructed it
6
وَٱلْأَرْضِAnd the earth
وَمَاand by (He) Who
طَحَـٰهَاspread it
٦
And [by] the earth and He who spread it
7
وَنَفْسٍۢAnd (the) soul
وَمَاand (He) Who
سَوَّىٰهَاproportioned it
7
And [by] the soul and He who proportioned it
8
فَأَلْهَمَهَاAnd He inspired it
فُجُورَهَا(to distinguish) its wickedness
وَتَقْوَٮٰهَاand its righteousness
٨
And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness,
9
قَدْIndeed
أَفْلَحَhe succeeds
مَنwho
زَكَّىٰهَاpurifies it
9
He has succeeded who purifies it,
10
وَقَدْAnd indeed
خَابَhe fails
مَنwho
دَسَّىٰهَاburies it
10
And he has failed who instills it [with corruption].
11
كَذَّبَتْDenied
ثَمُودُThamud
بِطَغْوَٮٰهَآby their transgression
١١
Thamūd denied [their prophet] by reason of their transgression,
12
إِذِWhen
ٱنۢبَعَثَ(was) sent forth
أَشْقَـٰهَا(the) most wicked of them
١٢
When the most wretched of them was sent forth.
13
فَقَالَBut said
لَهُمْto them
رَسُولُ(the) Messenger
ٱللَّهِ(of) Allah
نَاقَةَ(It is the) she-camel
ٱللَّهِ(of) Allah
وَسُقْيَـٰهَاand her drink
١٣
And the messenger of Allāh [i.e., Ṣāliḥ] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allāh or [prevent her from] her drink."
14
فَكَذَّبُوهُBut they denied him
فَعَقَرُوهَاand they hamstrung her
فَدَمْدَمَSo destroyed
عَلَيْهِمْthem
رَبُّهُمtheir Lord
بِذَنۢبِهِمْfor their sin
فَسَوَّىٰهَاand leveled them
14
But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them].
15
وَلَاAnd not
يَخَافُHe fears
عُقْبَـٰهَاits consequences
١٥
And He does not fear the consequence thereof.
