The Clear Proof

البينة

Explains why a Messenger needed to be sent to both the People of the Book and the idolaters, since neither group was following clear guidance despite their claims.

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

لَمْNot
يَكُنِwere
ٱلَّذِينَthose who
كَفَرُواْdisbelieved
مِنْfrom
أَهْلِ(the) People
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِof the Book
وَٱلْمُشْرِكِينَand the polytheists
مُنفَكِّينَto be abandoned
حَتَّىٰuntil
تَأْتِيَهُمُ(there) comes to them
ٱلْبَيِّنَةُthe clear evidence

Those who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists were not to be parted [from misbelief] until there came to them clear evidence

رَسُولٌۭA Messenger
مِّنَfrom
ٱللَّهِAllah
يَتْلُوا۟reciting
صُحُفًۭاpages
مُّطَهَّرَةًۭpurified

A Messenger from Allāh, reciting purified scriptures

فِيهَاWherein
كُتُبٌۭ(are) writings
قَيِّمَةٌۭcorrect
3

Within which are correct writings [i.e., rulings and laws].

وَمَاAnd not
تَفَرَّقَbecame divided
ٱلَّذِينَthose who
أُوتُوا۟were given
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَthe Book
إِلَّاuntil
مِنۢfrom
بَعْدِafter
مَاwhat
جَآءَتْهُمُcame (to) them
ٱلْبَيِّنَةُ(of) the clear evidence

Nor did those who were given the Scripture become divided until after there had come to them clear evidence.

وَمَآAnd not
أُمِرُوٓاْthey were commanded
إِلَّاexcept
لِيَعْبُدُواْto worship
ٱللَّهَAllah
مُخْلِصِينَ(being) sincere
لَهُto Him
ٱلدِّينَ(in) the religion
حُنَفَآءَupright
وَيُقِيمُواْand to establish
ٱلصَّلَوٲةَthe prayer
وَيُؤْتُواْand to give
ٱلزَّكَوٲةَ‌ۚthe zakah
وَذَٲلِكَAnd that
دِينُ(is the) religion
ٱلْقَيِّمَةِthe correct
٥

And they were not commanded except to worship Allāh, [being] sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth, and to establish prayer and to give zakāh. And that is the correct religion.

إِنَّIndeed
ٱلَّذِينَthose who
كَفَرُواْdisbelieve
مِنْfrom
أَهْلِ(the) People
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ(of) the Book
وَٱلْمُشْرِكِينَand the polytheists
فِى(will be) in
نَارِ(the) Fire
جَهَنَّمَ(of) Hell
خَـٰلِدِينَabiding eternally
فِيهَآ‌ۚtherein
أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَThose
هُمْthey
شَرُّ(are the) worst
ٱلْبَرِيَّةِ(of) the creatures
٦

Indeed, they who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture and the polytheists will be in the fire of Hell, abiding eternally therein. Those are the worst of creatures.

إِنَّIndeed
ٱلَّذِينَthose who
ءَامَنُواْbelieve
وَعَمِلُواْand do
ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِrighteous deeds
أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَthose
هُمْthey
خَيْرُ(are the) best
ٱلْبَرِيَّةِ(of) the creatures
٧

Indeed, they who have believed and done righteous deeds - those are the best of creatures.

جَزَآؤُهُمْTheir reward
عِندَ(is) with
رَبِّهِمْtheir Lord
جَنَّـٰتُGardens
عَدْنٍۢ(of) Eternity
تَجْرِىflow
مِنfrom
تَحْتِهَاunderneath them
ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُthe rivers
خَـٰلِدِينَwill abide
فِيهَآtherein
أَبَدًۭا ۖforever
رَّضِىَ(will be) pleased
ٱللَّهُAllah
عَنْهُمْwith them
وَرَضُوا۟and they (will be) pleased
عَنْهُ ۚwith Him
ذَٰلِكَThat
لِمَنْ(is) for whoever
خَشِىَfeared
رَبَّهُۥhis Lord

Their reward with their Lord will be gardens of perpetual residence beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever, Allāh being pleased with them and they with Him. That is for whoever has feared his Lord.
